Cobalt alloy bare rods are used for wear, galling, or corrosion resistance in a cobalt-based deposit without a flux coating. They are commonly supplied as straight, uncoated filler rods for TIG/GTAW and oxy-fuel hardfacing.

The grade changes the deposit behavior, while diameter and length affect how the rod fits the welding process and production setup.

At Shenyang Confident Trading Co., Ltd., we focus on cobalt alloy welding consumables and supply you with most of the required grades, rod sizes, and supply conditions for an existing welding specification or application.

Common Cobalt Alloy Bare Rod Grades
GradeCommon AWS ReferenceHardnessTypical Use Direction
Cobalt Alloy 6ERCoCr-AHRC 43Valve sealing surfaces, engine valves, general hardfacing
Cobalt Alloy 12ERCoCr-BHRC 47Saw-related hardfacing, cutting edges, higher-wear valve surfaces
Cobalt Alloy 1ERCoCr-CHRC 53Severe-wear surfaces and cutting applications
Cobalt Alloy 21ERCoCr-EHRC 20Valve and pump components, hot-working surfaces

ERCOCR-A, ERCOCR-B, and ERCOCR-C are cobalt-chromium-tungsten alloys with different carbide levels. ERCOCr-E is a lower-carbon cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy, so its behavior is different from the others.

What Sizes Are Commonly Supplied?

Cobalt alloy bare rods are available in a range of diameters and lengths. Common commercial sizes include diameters of 2.4, 2.7, 3.2, 4.0, 4.8, 5.0, 6.0 and 8.0 mm, etc., with straight lengths such as 1000, 2000 and 4000 mm.

We can also supply custom chemical composition, size, and length, but the availability depends on the alloy grade, production route, and order quantity.

Where Are Cobalt Alloy Bare Rods Used?

Bare rods are mainly used to place a cobalt alloy working layer on selected areas of a component. The aim is usually to protect the surface against wear, galling, erosion or combined high-temperature service while keeping the base component in a more economical material.

  • Valve sealing surfaces — cobalt hardfacing is used on seats, discs, wedges and other contact surfaces where metal-to-metal wear and galling are concerns.
  • Engine valves — cobalt alloy deposits are used on valve faces and related wear areas that operate under repeated contact and elevated temperature.
  • Bandsaw and saw applications — harder grades such as Alloy 12 or Alloy 1 may be used where edge wear and abrasion are dominant.
  • General surface hardfacing — shafts, sleeves, wear pads and other localized surfaces can be rebuilt or protected with a cobalt alloy deposit when the service condition justifies it.
Why Work With a Specialist Cobalt Alloy Trader?

Cobalt alloy welding consumables are a narrow product category. Similar grade names may appear in bare rods, wire, covered electrodes and powders, and not every source offers the same sizes or supply condition.

Because we are not only a tader, but a factory with over 30 years of cobalt alloy production experience, we will confirm the correct product form, coordinate suitable supply resources and keep the technical and commercial specification clear from quotation through export delivery.
